Commonly used in spiritual and healing practices, Palo santo is a type of wood that comes from the bursera graveolens tree, which is native to South America.

Palo santo is a type of wood that comes from the bursera graveolens tree, which is native to South America. It is also believed to clear negative energies and promote a sense of calm.

Benefits:

  1. Spiritual cleansing: Burning palo santo is believed to clear negative energy and purify a space or person. It's often used in spiritual and healing practices, such as smudging, to promote a sense of calm and relaxation.

  2. Aromatherapy: The fragrant smoke produced by palo santo is thought to have a calming effect and can be used as a natural air freshener or incense.

  3. Medicinal properties: Palo santo is believed to have anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties. It's often used to treat colds, headaches, and respiratory issues.

  4. Stress relief: The aroma of palo santo is believed to have a calming effect on the mind and body, making it useful for reducing stress and anxiety.

How to use

  1. Burning: The most common way to use palo santo is by burning it. You can light one end of the stick with a lighter or match until it catches fire, then blow out the flame to produce smoke. Hold the stick at a 45-degree angle and let the smoke waft around the area or object you want to purify. It's recommended to use a heat-resistant dish to catch any falling ash.

  2. Smudging: Palo santo is often used in smudging rituals, where the smoke is used to cleanse and purify a person, object, or space. Hold the stick and use a feather or your hand to direct the smoke over yourself or the space you want to cleanse.

  3. Aromatherapy: You can also use palo santo for aromatherapy by simply holding the stick near your nose and breathing in the scent. This can help promote relaxation and reduce stress.
