What is COSMOS?
The COSMOS-standard is a new cosmetic certification developed to harmonize various certifications and labels in order to create one standard that is internationally recognized for natural and organic cosmetics.


  1. Emulsion Preparation: OLIVEM 1000 is typically used to create oil-in-water (o/w) emulsions. To prepare an emulsion, you will need to combine the oil phase and water phase separately.

  2. Oil Phase: In a suitable container, mix together your desired oils, fats, and other oil-soluble ingredients. OLIVEM 1000 can be added to the oil phase at a recommended usage level of 3-5%.

  3. Water Phase: In another container, combine your water-based ingredients, such as water, hydrosols, and water-soluble active ingredients.

  4. Heating: Gently heat both the oil phase and water phase separately to around 70-75°C (158-167°F). You can use a double boiler or separate heat-resistant containers for this purpose.

  5. Emulsion Formation: Once both phases reach the desired temperature, slowly add the water phase to the oil phase while stirring continuously. This step is crucial for achieving a stable emulsion.

  6. Homogenization: After combining the phases, continue stirring or homogenizing the mixture using a hand blender or a high-shear mixer to further promote emulsion formation and stability. Ensure that the temperature remains within the recommended range.

  7. Cooling: Allow the emulsion to cool down while continuing to stir gently. As the emulsion cools, it will start to thicken.

  8. Optional Ingredients: You can incorporate additional water-soluble or oil-soluble ingredients, such as fragrance oils, essential oils, preservatives, or botanical extracts, during the cooling phase. Ensure compatibility and stability of these additives.

  9. pH Adjustment: Check the pH of the emulsion using a pH meter or pH test strips. If necessary, adjust the pH to the desired range using a suitable pH adjuster.

  10. Packaging: Once the emulsion has cooled completely, transfer it into suitable containers, such as bottles or jars, for storage and use. Ensure the containers are clean and properly sanitized.
